Camellia Nursery on the South Coast, NSW
Raraflora is a specialist nursery with a wonderful array of stunning and often hard to find camellias. Indeed, we pride ourselves in growing those hard to propogate varieties and graft all our camellias to ensure adaptable and hardy plants. We only sell our camellias after they have grown here for at least two years after grafting and are potted in 20cm/8" pots. The understock (this is the plant which we graft onto and forms the root of the new shrub) is Sasanqua, the hardiest of all camellia specie, and never less than 3 years old when we begin grafting.
Camellia Reticulata
The reticulata camellias originated in Yunnan, in southern China where the climate is very similar to temperate and highland Australia.
These spectacular shrubs produce large to very large blooms almost always in late winter.
The evergreen bushes are open and upright with large leathery, matt green leaves varying to shiny dark green.
We graft all of our camellias ensuring adaptable and hardy camellia plants.

Camellia Japonica and Camellia Hybrids
Japonica and hybrid camellias are evergreen shrubs that will produce an abundance of striking blooms in winter and early spring.
Japonicas and hybrids are the most numerous of all camellia garden cultivars, with flower shapes and colours available in a seemingly endless range.
These plants perform best in light shade to full sun. (While it is sometimes considered best to plant them in shade, we believe flowering is more abundant on plants receiving good sun. White and pale pink flowers may be best shielded from hot afternoon sun, which can scald the petals.)

Higo Camellias
Higo camellias are rare in Australia. The true form is from southern Japan and striking in its simplicity and elegance.
The single form flowers are produced on a neat, compact bush.
About 20 cultivars are presently available in Australia with several more also in the country but not readily available.
